Since lockdown, so many challenges have been posted on Instagram be it a cooking challenge, or simply an exercise-related challenge to encourage the sense of solidarity. #Challenge accepted trend is one such thing.
The latest trend took off when women started posting flattering black and white selfies with the caption #ChallengeAccepted on Instagram. But I don’t understand this ‘challenge’ at all. How can this kind of challenge is pushing other women to post a selfie? Would it not make more sense to post snaps of other women who empower us?” The hashtag has over 60 lakh posts. and everyone, including celebrities, has taken part in this trend. Some people say that this trend did not originate in turkey, but does that matter? And the only question arises do these movements make any difference? Can’t we take it offline? And talk with family and friends. Anyways social media has done what our system failed to deliver. They say “Turkey is one of the top countries when it comes to femicide,” Turkish people wake up every day to see a black and white photo of females who are getting killed on Instagram, on newspapers & on news channels on TV” . Women to show solidarity and raise their voice, and to show that “one day, it could be their picture that is plastered across news outlets with a black and white filter on top”.
Challenges like these forces a person to check on their behavior towards women. It is about equality, which is not been provided to women especially. Talk with your family members and let them know that you have a problem with somethings, with that harmful sexist joke. Let them know. Have an uncomfortable conversation to have a comfortable life. Just say it!
